    For a mental reset I like to look through my journals and choose that thing(s) that keep being put off month after month. I choose a day, get a Starbucks, order takeout and get that stuff done! Even if it's one thing or a project started it feels so good to not carry that into 2024.

      That’s such a good idea!!! I have a procrastinated list, that I write each month of the things that I’ve been putting off all month, but I haven’t figure out how to actually make them happen yet! Setting a day and getting myself coffee (sorry, not Starbucks! I’m Aussie! Lol) and takeaway would REALLY help!!! Thankyou! Will try it this month! My list is rather overwhelming now!

    I do a word of the year exercise where I choose a word and write out all the definitions and how I want to apply them to my life next year (you could do calm or collected). Last year I chose the word challenge and I did challenge myself a lot!

    this will probably sound obvious but something that mentally helps a bit sometimes is just reminding myself "hey, nobody else can see your thoughts, you don't have to filter everything"
    i have pretty bad ocd and for me part of that is intrusive thoughts, so just having little reminders every now and then "you aren't being a bad person, nobody else can see or hear it, it's ok to let it come and go" can help. that habit also started carrying over into other things, like if i get mad at myself for missing a self imposed deadline or forgetting something i wanted to do, it's like "nobody else was holding me to that standard, i was the only person that had any expectations about this or this, tomorrow is another day and nobody says i can't just do it then"
    gonna try to follow your formula for next year, it just never struck me to only focus on a handful of specific problem areas at a time so i spent years putting things off just cus it seemed like a lot more than it actually is

    For me, the thing that would help me mentaly reset was to go camping for a week or two. so basically: no technology, daily light, daily activity, the vibe, the smells, the no pressure, no need to talk to anybody I don't feel like, no need to attend any event, etc.

    Mental reset ideas: brain unwind of all things upcoming in the next year in the life areas that are important to you, your trackers are they still important to you or someone you care about, is there anything that you want to begin learning or doing in the coming months (can be year but I tend towards seasonal resets), and finally what do you want to stop or tweak in your life in the coming months. These would be my prompts for a mental reset on a seasonal or larger scale. Also why are you doing what you are doing? Why are these activities important for you? As long as you are not harming anyone (inclusive of you), then feel free to do whatever you want. These are just my ideas. 💡

    Very interesting Jess. I don’t typically find the need to reset. Not that I don’t fall off many a wagon, I do! I just either let it go or get back on the wagon and keep going. I suppose it’s a reset without a formal acknowledgment of it being a reset! Found your reset list very helpful ❤

    Great video and ideas❤ As for mental declutter/ reset I usually use some prompts to guide me through journaling, such as: What were my accomplishments in 2023? What things didn't go well? And from the answers to these prompts comes the ideas of what I need to work on more in the new year. Reflection brings so much light on what we could focus on in the new year🙏🏻 I also tried to do this reflection on multiple writing sessions not just one in order to make it less time consuming and less of mental work as well.

    Man I really need to do this myself. 😅 I did want to throw out a suggestion though if you'd like. Instead of buying new plastic bins, you could purchase food Grade Silicone leftover containers. I made the switch and it's been so much easier to organize them in the drawer. Plus they are freezer, microwave and dishwasher safe so all around win for me. 😊

    I just found your channel tonight because this video came on my feed. I love this video. I love doing a reset as well. The list you were doing at the beginning where you went room to room and listed things, I call that my bug list. I write down the projects in each room that have gotten put off that bug me (i.e. touch up paint, replace light switch covers, get new bedspread, shampoo couch,etc.) You do a bug list by room . It really helps to put all of that on a list so it doesn't clutter your mind. For the mental clutter, I do an honest inventory of my relationships in my life and decided which ones are thriving and which ones are worth putting the time and energy into. Also with mental reset I also take a good honest look at everything I am involved in like volunteering, projects, things where you spend time, what outside of your livelihood brings you joy and what can you say no to so you are not overwhelmed with too much on your plate? Also with mental reset, what is a hobby you enjoyed and miss doing that you gave up because of time restraints that you can now make time for because you have made room in your schedule by letting go of other less important things. Also for mental reset, learn that it is ok to say no to people and it doesn't make you a bad person..I hope your subscribers also for a mental reset in 2024 make it a practice and habit to use mindfulness everyday. For example when you are doing the dishes focus on the smell of the detergent, how does the dish feel, what is the color of the dish. Or when you are listening to music, what does the guitar rhythm sound like, is it upbeat, does it make you want to get up and dance. Being mindful is being present fully as you are doing things. It helps to be present in the moment and it helps to lower anxiety. There are so many wonderful ways to help reset our mental area in our lives for the upcoming year. I believe that the reset of social media helps because we won't compare ourselves with others. When we clean our closets and remove clothes that don't fit us anymore we also help ourselves mentally. Let's be honest, how many of us sit in front of our closets and look at a lot of the clothes and say I can't wear that because it doesn't fit and start to verbally abuse ourselves? We own our clothes, we shouldn't let our clothes own us. That is why getting rid of those clothes that no longer fit us is good for our mental reset as well. Sorry for the overload but this video got my mind going. I needed this because I had a craniotomy in September. Thank you ❤

    Plastic containers breed! Good luck with the Kitchen Reset! as for a mental reset, for me its about removing the mental clutter - so what is cluttering your brain (issues that cause anxiety or take up space?) One of my examples - trying to remember when my medical scripts run out, and which meds have run out (I take a lot of meds). Solution - created an index card with all my meds on it, with a re-usable tick box, to take to the chemist with me. I ask my pharmacist which repeat I'm up to, and underline the ones that need new scripts. Buy the meds that are ticked. When replaced/bought - I can erase the tick or underline. Extra benefit, when the hospital asks which meds am I taking - I can just show them my card. Also it fits in my wallet.

    • @selbarton
      @selbarton 8 месяцев назад +2

      I carry an index card in my wallet with clear sections for allergies (medication and non-medication separately) and medication I am on with dosage and schedule. I need to get my med alert bracelet back out with the note to see wallet for info. I have a page in my planner for doctors that has all the index card info, family history, prior personal history, my diagnosed issues, which meds are for which diagnosis, all my doctors with contact info, and emergency contacts. I have the same for my parents just in case (only child). I also have a spread with doctor apps, med changes, blood work/tests... so I know which doctor needs what added to their system. That has been a life saver this year.
      Our prescription bottles have the refills left number on them so I try to check those each month. I note on my monthly spread when to request the refill, and my weekly shows pharmacy or doctor office so I know where to contact.

      Love this!!
      My pharmacy has a service that they fax the doctor for the same thing refills when needed. This only works for things that are able to get refills.
      I get a script from the pharmacy when a person who is allowed to get them drops in on their way home from work. I put the refill date in my calendar/ future log with the pharmacy reference number for the item. But I do that -7 days from the date of the day when the refill is scheduled to run out. So if it is a 30 day supply then I put the info on day 23, and if it is a 90-day fill, then I put it on day 83. I use a calculator for those and subtract number of days left in the month the meds were received, and if the results are over the next month’s number of days, then I subtract that from what is on the calculator until I get a result less than the number of days in a month. Then I go to the appropriate month, find the refill date number on there and count forward the number of days left on the calculator.
      So if I get the refill done on 23 November, it is picked up on 27 November, and is a 90 day supply. I put 90 in calculator, subtract 7 days remaining in November, and get 83, less December 31, is 52, less January 31 is 21, less the 7 for the refill window opening, is 14. So that means that on 14 February, I put the refill info usually “Rx 123456789”. Then when I get there, I know that that means to call pharmacy for the refill. If I track for others, I put their initial in front of the refill information on the date. “BH Rx 1234” for example if for me.

    This is fantastic! I made the switch from plastic to Pyrex. I don't know if you have that where you are but it's glass. I was able to really downsize because it's good in the oven and the freezer as well. I can use one container to cook and store food as well as serve it. You can buy replacement lids if they wear out over time. I have my original set from my wedding in 1998! It's great for the environment and the wallet. Win win.

      We have Pyrex jugs and a couple of glass containers 💪 how do they go with stacking? 🤔

    • @bookhuggah
      @bookhuggah 8 месяцев назад +1

      My mom had glass containers, and I have some glass mixing bowls with lids. I stack the bowls into each other, and then put the lids in a stack of largest on bottom and smallest on top. The lids are flat so I put them under the stack of bowls to keep them together on the cupboard shelf.
      We also have some smaller containers that hold a small serving of ice cream or other stuff (you can see my preference for using them, lol), these never had lids and have a lip at the top. I use reusable lids to keep them from getting icky when they’re in the fridge or freezer. These are usually things that look like shower caps with elastic at the edge to grip around the bowl that they are on. We bought the box of lids that way about five to ten years ago and they are still in good condition.
      I also use masking tape, or sticky notes, or plain washi tape as available, to label the container as they go to the fridge or freezer with the name of contents and date made. Then when an item is defrosted I put the defrost date on the label too. Food safety for a former job taught me that skill and to use things within three days of cooking. Those three days could be pause by freezing the item, but it needs to be labeled as well.
      Anyway sorry for going down that rabbit hole. The pen is usually a permanent marker, sharpie thick marker here, but whatever works for you and yours.

    Even tough a yearly reset is not for me, bc not enough time in this year is left to do so, I want to give you a hint I think I got from simplify your life: store items you need always in the spot you need them, as I heard you store your hair dryer in another room than you use it, wah! My life feels so much easier since I follow that rule more strictly. Coffee mugs are in the cabinet right under the coffee machine, spices are and ONLY are in the drawer under the oven. Every garbage can has its own roll of new garbage-bags right on the bottom of the garbage can. Round plastics have to go, I got two drawers full of food containers. They have to be rectengular. And whilst your at it you can invest in glass containers, more sustainable and if we are honest the weight is not that much of a problem. I decluttered those drawers a year ago, and they still look neat because it is a whole lot easier to put them away in a tidy manner.

      Honestly, poorly 😝 but one thing I do to help it set a visible timer. Holds me accountable to that amount of time, and gives me a reminder when I’ve got distracted 😝 normally I only set it for roughly 5-10 minutes per task on each platform
